An Amazing Thing Happened At BWI Airport

This morning, an amazing thing happened at BWI Airport.

A plane was filled with 60,000 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes from right here in the Mid-Atlantic region. The filled shoeboxes are headed to refugee families on Mount Sinjar in northern Iraq who were displaced by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), terrorism, and the Syrian civil war. Samaritan's Purse's Franklin Graham, Fox News' Greta Van Susteren, the Annapolis Area Christian School choir, and shoebox recipient Yulia Shubina were on hand to celebrate the dedication of the airlift.

Yulia Shubina received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox when she was nine years old and has never forgotten the hope it gave her. She shows all the guests in attendence the stuffed puppy that was included in her shoebox. She's also kept the note that was tucked inside.

Greta Van Susteren shared with the audience that she's been to the refugee camp where the shoeboxes are headed. As cold and windy as it was today, she says the temperatures are worse on Mount Sinjar. Van Susteren also adds that the spirits of the Yazidis are low, but receiving the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will bring them much needed hope. Franklin Graham, President of Samaritan's Purse, then prayed over the shoeboxes and for the families who would be receiving the shoebox gifts.

SHINE staff was on hand for the dedication to represent the tens of thousands of SHINE-FM listeners who participate each year in Operation Christmas Child by packing shoeboxes with gifts for children who have never experienced the joy of a gift. Each year, hundreds of thousands of filled shoeboxes are sent around the world from the Mid-Atlantic region alone. It's amazing to think 60,000 of those shoeboxes, all from the SHINE-FM listening community, are leaving today to give hope to the refugees on Mount Sinjar, Iraq. Necessary supplies, including food, will be accompanying the shoeboxes. Would you join with us in praying for the refugees and that this simple gesture will provide the hope they need?
