Several years ago I faced a trial that God used to teach me a powerful lesson about being still: I lost my voice.
As a singer and a songwriter that’s pretty much the worst thing that could happen. I was forced to have surgery on my vocal chords and then spent 2 months in total and complete silence while my voice healed with no guarantees that I’d ever be able to sing again.
That was when the words from Psalm 46:10 came to life for me, “Be still and know that I am God.” Another translation that I love says, “Cease striving and know that I am God.”
God taught me a powerful lesson during that season: there was nothing I could do within my own power to change my circumstances. I learned the power waiting to be discovered when I stopped long enough to listen and allow God to show me how great He is. I challenge you to be still today; cease striving and be reminded that He is God and He is in control.
It’s time to start over, starting now. Today is Day One.
