The word father is a difficult word for many. For many, it represents abandonment, hurt, or no connection because of his absence. Our father experience, in many ways, shapes our view of God, our Heavenly Father.
If you've never felt the compassion, love, and understanding of a father, you might struggle to relate when it says in Psalm 103:13 that, "The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him." You may have a difficult relationship with your father, or no relationship at all, but we want you to know, even as you struggle with the word father, you are safe to drop your guard when it comes to your Heavenly Father.
When your earthly father ran from you, your Heavenly Father sought you.
“For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search and find my sheep." - Ezekiel 34:11
When your earthly father has abandoned you or failed you, your Heavenly Father won't.
"...For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6
When your earthly father had no idea you were crying, your Heavenly Father did.
"You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book." - Psalm 56:8
When your earthly father wasn't there to cheer you on, your Heavenly Father was delighting in you the whole time.
"For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” - Zephaniah 3:17
When your earthly father couldn't give a little of his time for you, your Heavenly Father gave His Son for you.
"God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him." - 1 John 4:9
When your earthly father isn't around to talk to about your problems, your Heavenly Father is.
"Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall." - Psalm 55:22
When your earthly father isn't even thinking about you, your Heavenly Father is.
"How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!" - Psalm 139:17-18
When your earthly father didn't pass his heritage to you, your Heavenly Father has and calls you His heir.
"For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering." - Romans 8:16-17
When you feel like a part of you is missing because you don't know your earthly father, you are complete in your Heavenly Father.
"For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority." - Colossians 2:9-10
