When it's time for a meal, what should you eat? That's what we're talking about today.
Our bodies are designed to function on protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. Our bodies actually desire and seek the nutrients that it needs to stay alive. As a society, we have wreaked havoc on our systems. We have been taught to crave sugar, processed and unhealthy foods at an epidemic rate. The result? Obesity in children and adults, premature aging, diabetes, and many other unnecessary ailments.
We must make the conscious effort to turn our diets around and reap the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
When you eat, you need to include a protein, a healthy carb, and a healthy fat. What exactly does that look like?
- A single portion size of protein includes lean meats, eggs, fish, cottage cheese, soy milk, Greek yogurt, nuts, and my personal favorite, natural peanut butter.
- Healthy carbs would include fruit, veggies, whole grains, brown rice, and oatmeal.
- The best healthy fats are in the form of avocado, olive oil, nuts, fatty fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, trout, sardines), soymilk, and tofu.
These are just a few suggestions to consider and to help stir your mind in the right direction. Explore and experiment to find combinations that you enjoy. Just make sure to exclude anything fried, processed, white sugar and white flour, anything with added salt, and high fat dairy. Outside of that, have fun, step out of your comfort zone and discover a whole new exciting palate for your taste buds to enjoy.
