Billy Graham will lie in honor in the US Capitol Rotunda Wednesday morning through Thursday morning. Only 33 people have been honored in the US Capitol after they died. Most of those have been government or military leaders, including 11 presidents. Only three have been private citizens. The most recent was Rosa Parks in 2005. Dr. Billy Graham will be the fourth.
Dr. Graham’s body will arrive at the Capitol from Charlotte, North Carolina, Wednesday morning. Congressional leaders will hold a brief service in the Rotunda before it opens to the public.
If you are interested in paying your respects, you will enter through the US Capitol Visitor Center, located on the east side of the Capitol, across the street from the Supreme Court and Library of Congress. All visitors will be subject to the normal screening process. There are a number of items you cannot take into the Capitol, including food and drink of any kind. You can see the US Capitol Visitor Center's complete list of prohibited items, accessibility services, and travel suggestions here.
The Rotunda will be open to the public from 1pm - 8pm on Wednesday. Dr. Graham will lie in honor through Thursday morning at 10am. His body will then be taken back to Charlotte for the funeral service on Friday at 12 noon.
