The Faith of Andrew

I love the faith of Andrew in the Feeding of the 5,000 story (Mark 6:30-44). He sees the magnitude of the problem and a little boy with his lunch. And Andrew connects it. He didn’t know how, but he knew Jesus could do something with that little lunch.

I’ll bet Andrew had butterflies in his belly when he called the boy forward - just anticipating something miraculous. Andrew didn’t have it all figured out but he knew something I’m still learning. Bring what you have to Jesus. A little in His hands goes way farther than a lot in mine.

“When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.

Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”

Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up,”Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.”
