A Father's Lesson On Trust

Take a listen to this short story or read below. Feel free to share!

A father took his son on a walk into the forest, and he said to him, "Son, as you move into manhood, there will be many things that scare you. Tonight, you're going to learn a lesson in trust and faith that you will carry with you forever." The father sat his son down on a stump deep in the forest, blindfolded him, and told him, "Do not take this blindfold off. I will be back in the morning. You sit right there."

The son was terrified, naturally. He grumbled out loud, "Why is this happening? Why are we here?? I don't understand any of this!"

He could hear all kinds of noises around him - animals moving about in the night, the wind blowing through the trees. Fear gripped him.

"Dad! Where are you??"

The son almost took the blind fold off and ran but decided to stay and trust his father.

Finally, the night gave way to morning and he could feel the sun on his face. The son removed the blindfold, blinking to let his eyes adjust to the morning sun. "Hey, buddy! Good morning!"

The son discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him. His father had been at watching over him the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

Like the son, God will sometimes lead us into a wilderness that we just don't understand and may even questions. And also, like the son, God hasn't abandoned us. He's with us the entire time. Just because we can’t see God, it doesn’t mean He isn't there. We can always remember in the dark times that He is our light and salvation... we have nothing to fear with Him by our side.

Want to remind yourself that God is with you in the dark times? Here are some verses you can highlight in your Bible or Bible app

"For we live by believing and not by seeing." - 2 Corinthians 5:7

"When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior." - Isaiah 43:2-3a

"The Lord is my light and my salvation - so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?" - Psalm 27:1

"The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety." - Psalm 18:2
