Axe Of Anger

I can't help it. I see God in everything. Even in throwing axes

I had a fun and unique experience yesterday with my creative friends from Bridgeway. We went to Kracken Axes in DC and threw axes at a wooden target wall. These were real axes! Heavy, sharp, positively medieval. Our "Axe Master" gave us safety instructions and demonstrated perfect form and then we gave it a try.

We cheered one another on even as we competed with each other and here's something I noticed. While our group consisted of some excellent athletes and physically strong people, it didn't always equate to precise axe throwing. There was a certain finesse to it.

You had to direct your strength in just the right way or that axe wasn't going to stay in the wall-even if it hit the wall. My first few tries were really bad. Not even getting near the wood. But then I found my aim and was able to at least get it to touch the wooden wall, but not strong enough to make it stay in the wood.

My friends were encouraging me.. "You gotta get angry! Think of the person you're really angry with!"

And I was...blank. There was no one in my life personally, past or present, that I could say I was angry with.

God has done a beautiful work in me because that wasn't always the case. So who could I picture in that target that I could direct my anger towards? People who hurt children, people who oppress other people, people who are racist, cruel, and misrepresent and dishonor God. There are plenty of things and people to be angry about.

But who is behind all of it?... it's the enemy of our souls. I am angry at him. I hate how he uses and confuses people. For a brief moment, I was able to think about that and throw that axe and hit the bullseye.

Remember who deserves your anger.

"Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
-Paul, Ephesians 6:11-12
