We are spending the final days of 2017 helping you Get to Know the Music of 95.1 SHINE-FM a little better. All week long you’ll hear the stories about our newest songs, and you’ll get to know the artists a little better. We’ve added some great songs over the past 12 months. We thought you’d like to know which ones are our personal favorites.
Old Church Choir by Zach Williams – It’s happy and hopeful and reminds me of the first love kinda of feeling in my relationship with God that I want to hold on to always.
When We Pray by Tauren Wells - This song makes me want to dance and pray at the same time! It reminds me to be expectant that God hears us and will answer us!
Rise by Danny Gokey - My heart aches for people who don't believe they matter to God. I love this song because it’s a rally cry for all the downcast to rise because God has created us to shine!
Even If by MercyMe – I love the message of this song, but I really love the way Bart sings it. I still turn up the volume every time I hear it. And, I’ve heard it a lot!
The Lion and the Lamb by Big Daddy Weave – The song refers to Jesus as the Lion of Judah. My grandson is named Judah. Need I say more?
We Are Royals by Northpoint Inside Out – Great message and a fun sound. This is the kind of song that moves me.
It's no doubt 2017 has been a difficult year for our world. It's in these times that worship music turns my head towards the heavens. That's why my top songs from 2017 are all worship songs.
What A Beautiful Name by Hillsong Worship - Hebrews 1 talks about how, in the past through various ways, God spoke through the prophets, but in these last days He speaks to us through His Son, Jesus. Through Jesus, we have access to the Father. This song encourages and empowers me to look to the face of Jesus. It reminds me of the truth. The name of Jesus is powerful, wonderful, and beautiful.
Death Was Arrested by North Point InsideOut - I love songs that so boldly convey truth. Sometimes it's so crystal clear that in your darkest days it cuts through the noise that the world throws your way. This song reminds me of all that matters. The God loved us so much that he chased us into the pit of hell and saved us from death. Death has been arrested. We have hope because of Jesus.
O, Come To The Altar by Elevation Worship - Okay, so technically this song wasn't released in 2017 either but it's still at the top of my playlist. There are times when we let our past define us. We believe the lie that we are too dirty for God to love us. The song is an invitation to come to the Father however we are. We can come to the Father because of Jesus. It's okay to not have it all together. It's okay to make mistakes because God doesn't want the things that we do. He simply wants us.
Joy by Vashawn Mitchell - My favorite line is, "There’s beauty in my brokenness." It resonates with me on how God can take a mess and turn it into a message!
Love Broke Thru by TobyMac - I love this song because it reminds me so much of myself. I don't know how or why he did it, but in the throws of alcoholism God pierced me and changed me.
Jesus by Chris Tomlin - So many songs have been written about His character, words and miracles. Yet this one, to me, simply lays out line-by-line and verse-by-verse the awesomeness of our King in such a simple but powerful way.
Still by Hillary Scott - This song reminds me that God is still doing way more than I think He is, and it's when I'm still that I see and feel Him best.
Hills and Valleys by Tauren Wells - I love this because: 1. Tauren's voice is butter, and 2. I love the reminder that God is equally in control and with me in my mountain-top moments and down deep in the valley moments.
Even If by MercyMe - It takes a lot of faith to love God when you know God could instantly resolve the thing you're begging Him to take care of, yet He's choosing not to. This song just reminds me what surrender really looks like and what it means to love God no matter what circumstance He allows me to go through.
When We Pray by Tauren Wells - Even when I want to stop, don't. Things change when I pray.
Bulletproof by Citizen Way - Reminds me of the skating rink! My jam!
Great Are You Lord by One Sonic Society - I feel my heart stop in its tracks to acknowledge it is nothing without God's breath.
Even If by Mercy Me – This song reminded me to trust God even when I can't see clearly.
The Comeback by Danny Gokey – This one made me realize the value of the next step forward.
Different by Micah Tyler - It's my teenage daughter's favorite song, so that makes the dad of that teenager happy.
