There's often an uncertainty that comes along with saying that you hope for something.
I hope to travel to Europe one day. I hope the Orioles do well this year. I hope the cancer treatment works.
You aren't completely certain that any of those things will happen, you simply hope they will. A Biblical definition of hope has no uncertainty. Biblical hope is when God has promised something and you put your trust in that promise. Instead of hoping something will come to pass, you have confidence that it will because God has promised it.
There is the promise that you will be saved if you believe in Jesus. (Romans 10:9-10)
You can hold to the promise of comfort, even in the middle of affliction. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
Know that God will always help you overcome temptation. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
When you put your hope in yourself, a job, or a dream there is always a chance that hope will turn into disappointment. When you love God and look to the Bible to build your hope, you can be certain that hope will not let you down. That hope will always endure.
Again and again, God proves that he is faithful. He will prove himself faithful to you as well. Even if it doesn't look like it right now, God has his reasons and they are more than you know. Trust him.
- Today's Prayer -
Thank you for your faithfulness. I know that when I put my hope in you, I will not be disappointed. Help me to see the promises that you have given to me in the Bible. Help me hold to those promises, even when life is difficult. Help to strengthen my faith each and every day.
