Love Isn't... Demanding

Just ask the mom of a toddler. The hardest battle to win is the one against a demanding three year old. Getting them to wear a coat when there's a blizzard raging? Nope. Stopping them from touching the scorching hot oven? Prepare for a tantrum.

Parents love their children and are always looking out for their best interests. Even still, children demand what they want, even if what they want is not what's best.

Have you ever wanted something so deeply that didn't end up working out? You were devastated when the relationship fell apart or you didn't get the promotion at work. Looking back now, you might be able to see where it was actually a blessing that things didn't go the way you wanted.

God is our heavenly father. We are told in the Bible that he loves us and will provide for our needs. Yet, we still question him. We demand our own way even when God is promising that his way is so much better.

Isaiah 55:9 says, "For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts."

God understands things that we can't even begin to comprehend. He sees the big picture even when we can't. If he's not giving you your own way, it could be because your way leads to harm.

In order to love God, you must trust him. Giving up control and handing it over to God is not always easy, but it is always worth it.

- Today's Prayer -

Dear Lord,

Please help me to remember that you are a good and loving Father. Forgive me for the times that I have tried to take control of things that I should be trusting to you. Lord, remind me of how you have provided for me in the past. I trust in you and your plans for my future.
