Bethany is a creative and traditional. There was no way she would use Facebook's event feature to host a party. No, if she's hosting a party, she's making the cards and mailing them to her friends to make things special. All the cards had been sent but the one for her friend Sarah. Bethany hadn't seen Sarah in forever, and decided to invite her out to lunch to give her the invitation personally.
Sarah couldn't believe it. Bethany was having a party and their mutual friends on Facebook were posting their excitement of having received the most beautiful invitations from her. Every day she checked her mailbox, but no invitation, just bills. She couldn't believe she wasn't invited. "I thought we were friends," she mused. "But maybe we aren't as good friends as I thought we were."
She was crushed and upset - it felt like high school all over again. She had lost faith in her friend. Imagine Sarah's surprise when she received Bethany's text to do lunch...and the moment she received the hand delivered invitation from Bethany. Sarah had assumed the worst, only to discover her friend had the best intentions.
Love believes all things; it keeps the faith. Love doesn't rush to judgement; it gives people the benefit of the doubt. Alex Kendrick says that even when we give someone the benefit of the doubt and "our worst hopes are proven to be true, love makes every effort to deal with them and move forward. As much as possible, love focuses on the positive." Who do you need to give the benefit of the doubt to today?
- Today's Prayer -
Help me not to rush to judgement about anyone today. Help me to give them the benefit of the doubt the way I'd hope someone would give it to me. Help me not to be gullible but to be wise with my love knowing that it's better to be generous with love than stingy.
