My Story: God Used Francesca Battistelli's Song to Get Me Honest About My Addiction

I'm Ronnie, and I live in Arbutus.

I am a recovering alcoholic / drug addict. Last year I turned 50. Two years ago, I lost my older brother to alcoholism.

Something started happening in my life, and I started listening to SHINE-FM last summer. All of the sudden, this song kept coming on, over and over. It seemed like every time I got in my car, I heard it. The song was, "If We're Honest," by Francesca Battistelli. It just got to me.

Bring your brokenness, and I'll bring mine
‘Cause love can heal what hurt divides
And mercy's waiting on the other side
If we're honest
If we're honest

Don't pretend to be something that you're not
Living life afraid of getting caught
There is freedom found when we lay our secrets down at the cross, at the cross

On August 1st, 2016, I woke up and decided I'd had enough.

I put myself into a rehabilitation center, and I'm going on eight months clean now. I'm in a program. I am the happiest and feel the closest to God that I've ever felt. I always had Him in my life, but I tell people I used to wake up every day asking God to forgive me. Now I wake up every day telling God, "Thank you." It feels so much better today.
