The 8 Things I Want To Do This Summer

Summer is here, which is so great considering we’ve been in monsoon season in Maryland for the last couple of months. I’d like to see about four or five days with no rain. How about you? For me, summer has been about achieving goals and ticking off items on my summertime bucket list. The list isn’t long, but it is meaningful, at least to me.
  1. More fishing. I’d like to catch a 3-4 lb bass. Thanks to my friend Wayne, I was re-introduced to fishing last year and I just loved it. It has nothing to do with a computer screen, and for me, it's a great way to connect with God.
  2. More dates with my wife, Julie. We’ve been in a season of extraordinary busyness which has been good but has left us “too pooped to pop.” I should probably move this item up to the top. She’s worth it.
  3. More “unscheduled” fun with my kids. I’m talking about things where we aren’t trying to “accomplish something.” No sports practice, no craft competitions, just hanging out together enjoying a movie or playing a game.
  4. More Archery. I am going to try deer hunting this fall with a bow. I need to practice up!
  5. More fire pit. Hot dogs and s’mores! Need I say more?
  6. More running. I ran the River Valley Run Trail Festival 5K last year, and I’d like to do that again. I’d also like to do it a little faster this year. I think I ended up at just over 42 minutes. It’s good for me, and it feels good to cross the finish line.
  7. Grow some watermelon. As of this writing, I’ve just put in some starters in the garden. We’ll see how that works out.
  8. More Jesus. I need Him, and I haven’t spent as much time with him as I should lately. He is worth it. Actually, I should be moving this item to the top of the list. Julie will go right underneath.
That’s quite a bit and enough of a list to keep me busy. I hope summer brings you what you are looking for. I’d love to hear what is on your bucket list. Send me an email at
