Valentine’s Day can be a tough day for a lot of us. Society often markets Valentine’s day as a romantic holiday, exclusive only to those who are dating or married. This year, SHINE-FM decided that we wanted to embrace Valentine’s Day and redefine it as a day to not only acknowledge the love that is shared in a romantic relationship, but to bring attention to God’s love for all of us. Scripture says that God is love. Romans 5:8 tells us that because of God’s great love for us, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Now that’s love.
Whether you love celebrating Valentine’s day, or absolutely dread it each year, there’s no denying that the idea of love on this day is something that is on everyone’s mind. So why not use this time as an opportunity to communicate to people that whether you’re single, dating, or married, God loves you.
This year, SHINE-FM hosted a Valentine’s Day card making night, where we created handmade cards for hospital patients at Mercy Medical Center. Thanks to our wonderful SHINE-FM community, we created and distributed 1,255 cards to hospital patients.
Morgan Lippert and I were lucky enough to hand deliver the cards and spend some time visiting with the cancer patients at the hospital on Wednesday, February 13th. It was obvious that the cards and the flowers (donated by Rutland Beard) were deeply appreciated and received with joy and gratitude. We both agreed that because of this special day, we were able to see how God is at work.
Thank you to all who participated in To Baltimore, With Love this year. Another big thanks to Mercy Medical Center and Severna Park Baptist for hosting us! There is no better way to spread God’s love than through serving our community.
