Volunteer Fear?

I’m a really outgoing person. To me, a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet! So, things like volunteering should be easy for me, right? Not so fast.

I always think twice about volunteering opportunities, especially when it entails directly interacting with those that I’m helping. I know that, as a Christian, I’m supposed to be charitable and help others, but volunteering has always been a struggle for me. I usually get stuck in my own head and wonder – did I even make a difference?

But what I realized about volunteering was that it’s not really about me. By questioning the impact of what I’m doing, I’m forgetting that volunteering is a great way to be the hands and feet of Jesus.  It’s a tangible way to love others. I also know that each time I do volunteer, I grow. I can't let my insecurities get in the way of loving people.

If you struggle like I do, I encourage you to step out in faith and serve. Trust me, I know it can be scary, but you got this!

You might say, “That’s great and all Morgan, but I don’t know where to volunteer.” No worries, I got you. 95.1 SHINE-FM has partnered with some great ministries that would love your help.

Check out some options below:

Helping Up Mission
Helping Up Mission is a local care center in Baltimore, helping men and women break their drug addiction. You can volunteer as apart of their dinner crew or their tutoring program.

Casey Cares Foundation
Casey Cares Foundation is all about giving support to families with critcally ill children. Volunteering isn’t just about giving your time. Casey Cares has many ways you can partner with them, like contributing a pair of PJs for a child in the hospital, a gift card to the grocery store for a family, and many more ways that you can see here.

Medical Missions Outreach
Medical Missions Outreach (MMO) visits underdeveloped countries to provide healthcare to those in need, using the gift of medicine to share the love of Christ. You can give them the gift of prayer, and you can also donate over the counter medical supplies like ibuprofin, TUMS, multi-vitamins, etc., and dental supplies like toothbrushes. And, if you're feeling adventurous, and you’re already about volunteering, you could join a mission trip with MMO! They need both medical and non-medical workers. See how you can get involved here

Look for more about these great organizations in the coming weeks! Have an organization you want to share? Email meI’d love to hear about it!
