Resurrection Power

If you asked my mom what I was like as a child, the one thing she would tell you is that I questioned EVERYTHING. I even questioned why I needed to hold her hand when crossing the street because I wanted to “do by self.” After she explained that it was important for me to hold her hand because cars couldn’t see me and I could get hit, I didn’t let go.

As a child, I needed the why behind things. If it wasn’t explained I struggled with cooperating. But the moment I understood the reason for something, I was compliant and pretty easy going.  Twenty-five years later, not much has changed. I am still a “why” seeker and Easter is no exception to this.

I know that Jesus dying on a cross and being raised from the dead actually happened almost 2,000 years ago.

But why?

Why does it matter?

1 Peter 1:3-4 says, “What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now!” (MSG)

Jesus being raised from the dead means that I have the opportunity to have new life if I receive it. It means that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead can set me free and live inside of me, transforming me into a new person. It can empower me to carry out Jesus’ mission of telling other people about Him (Matthew 28:18-20). This new life means that I get to be with Jesus in heaven forever because it is eternal.

Jesus’ resurrection does matter because it changes EVERYTHING. And it can change everything for you too!
