Can We Talk To God? A Lesson From Habakkuk
The book of Habakkuk. Few often read it, and even fewer know how to pronounce it (just kidding…kind of).
Personally, I never really spent much time in the book of Habakkuk, but that has changed recently. As I have studied this book more, I have realized that, although it is short, there are some beautiful truths to uncover. In short, Habakkuk is a prophet who sees the world around him growing more and more wicked by the day. He is in such distress about when justice will come, so he turns to God to ask.
And God answers.
The entire book is a conversation going back and forth between Habakkuk and God. There’s a pattern of the prophet crying out to God with his worries, and then God reassuring him that He is in full control. There is plenty to learn from this scripture, but let’s not miss the biggest and most clear lesson that Habakkuk teaches us: We can talk to God.
The book of Habakkuk, while rich and powerful in so many ways, so clearly reminds us that we can simply talk to God about whatever we’re going through, and He will respond. Scared, angry, confused, joyful, and everything in between…Let’s go to God, be honest, and expectantly wait for His response.
“Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day.” – Habakkuk 3:2
