February 13th. What a glorious day? Now that I think about it, it actually might be my favorite day of the year.

Maybe you’re wondering what could be so special about the day before Valentine’s day, or maybe you know exactly what I’m talking about…

For those who don’t know, February 13th is the unofficial holiday called Galentine’s Day, and it’s simply the best.

So, exactly what is this Galentine’s Day I speak of? Well…

The day actually originated from a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation and Leslie Knope, the unofficial holiday’s founder, put it best:

“Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.

Now, the day may have only been birthed out of a sitcom, but it has taken on new life as the years have progressed.

Every February 13th, ladies far and wide take the opportunity to celebrate each other. It could mean treating your mom to lunch for all she’s done for you or organizing a brunch with your closest girlfriends to show how much you appreciate them.

It can even be as small as writing encouraging notes to all the women in your life who you admire and are thankful for.

This is one day of the year, right before Valentine’s Day, to shoutout all the amazing ladies in your life: Moms, daughters, aunts, cousins, friends, coworkers, bosses, the lady who makes your Starbucks order every day… the list goes on.

The key to Galentine’s day is not to overthink it. Now, go forth and show the ladies in your life how much you appreciate them!
