Can You Relate? The Powerful Message Behind for KING & COUNTRY’s New Song
Who are some people you relate to? More often than not, the people who we relate to most are the ones we have the most in common with, the ones who live similar lives to our own.
When we relate to someone, compassion and empathy for them tend to come a bit easier to us. But how can we show that same empathy and compassion to people who think and live differently?
It’s a difficult but necessary question to ask, especially as believers in the King of compassion: Jesus Christ. Joel and Luke Smallbone of for KING & COUNTRY tackle this important topic in their new song, “RELATE.”
The brothers and bandmates wanted to create a song that painted a picture of the compassion that Jesus showed throughout His entire life, even to the people who hated and betrayed Him. The song serves as a reminder and an invitation to mimic the actions of Jesus and love one another despite our differences in opinion and life experience.
“I don’t know what it’s like to be you
You don’t know what it’s like to be me
What if we’re all the same in different kinds of ways?
Can you, can you relate?
We both know what it’s like to be hurt
We both know what it’s like to feel pain
But I think it’s safe to say we’re on to better days
Can you, can you relate?”
