Wresting Through The Ache of Singleness
For my ladies who are struggling hard with singleness or the unmet desire of motherhood, please don’t let the struggle pull you down to the mat in a crumpled heap unless it’s to stay down and wrestle with God.
Instead of holding your hurt in, “…pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us,” Psalm 62:8.
Use all the pent-up words as David did here in Psalm 13:1-2: “O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day?”
Satan will happily pounce on your hurt and tell you half-truths. No doubt he probably has already whispered to you that God doesn’t care about your desires, your dreams, your hopes… God has abandoned you… you’ve slipped through the cracks… He’s ignoring you.
It’s lies. All lies.
It feels believable because what you want hasn’t happened. We all crave the answer to the question, “Why?” and so far Satan’s words seem like the answer the heart wants to hear when it’s hurting. Satan tried to pull that half-truth stunt on Jesus in the desert. Do you remember how Jesus responded? He didn’t ignore or entertain Satan; He responded with the truth of God’s Word.
Let’s try it now.
Lie: God doesn’t even care about me.
Truth: God cares for you more than you know. “Give all your worries and cares to God, for HE CARES ABOUT YOU.” – 1 Peter 5:7
Lie: God loves these other women more than me.
Truth: God isn’t giving special favors to other women and excluding you. “The Lord is good to ALL, and his mercy is over ALL that he has made.” – Psalm 145:9
The ache to be married or to be a mother is real. God knows. He knows your ache.
I pray as you wrestle with God that, “the God of hope [will] fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” – Romans 15:13
